Block, Poured, or Retaining Walls Come Down Right or Not at All

   Concrete walls outlast their reasons. Property lines change, yards get redesigned, old planters and dividers stop making sense, and block walls crack, lean, and crumble until they're a liability instead of a feature.    The wall type decides the approach. Block walls come down in controlled courses; poured walls get broken or saw cut into manageable sections; and reinforced walls, rebar-filled cells, grouted block, steel in the pour, come out steel and all. Partial removals are everyday work: taking a wall down to a lower height, removing a section for a gate or driveway opening, or cutting a clean end where part of the wall stays. Saw cuts keep the remaining wall solid and the edges straight enough to finish or build against.

   Retaining walls are their own category, and we treat them that way. A retaining wall is holding ground back, remove it wrong and the slope, the neighbor's yard, or whatever's uphill comes with it. We assess what the wall is actually retaining before it comes down, plan the removal so the ground stays where it belongs, and coordinate the grading or new wall that takes over the job.    Footings come out with the wall, dug out below grade, not snapped off at the dirt line, so the ground is truly clear for the fence, the new wall, or the open yard replacing it.
