ROOT LOCATING

ROOT LOCATING AND REMOVAL PROFESSIONALS

Serving Fresno, Clovis, Sanger , and the Central Valley

We Find The Roots, We Pull The Roots

The work starts with locating. Surface roots are easy you can see them running across the lawn. The rest we trace from the stump outward, following the main laterals to find where they run and what they're headed toward.     Roots grow toward water, so they tend to end up in the exact places you don't want them: under flatwork, along irrigation lines, near the sewer clean-out.

Once we know where they run, we pull them. Depending on size and depth, that means trenching along the root line with a machine and lifting the roots out, or cutting them into sections and pulling them in pieces. Big laterals off a mature tree can run thirty feet or more and be as thick as your arm, this is real excavation, not raking.

Root removal opens up the yard. We're following roots wherever they go, and the ground above them comes up with the work. What we can salvage, we salvage, sod gets cut and set aside where it makes sense, planting beds get worked around when we can, and we keep the disturbance to the root lines instead of the whole yard.     When the roots are out, we can backfill the trenches, grade everything back level, and leave the yard ready for repair or replanting.

If a root has already done damage, lifted a slab, cracked a walkway, we can handle that side of it too. Concrete removal is what we do.

We come out, walk the yard with you, and trace where the roots run and what they're affecting. From there we lay out the plan, what comes out, what gets saved, and what the yard needs afterward. That's everything we need to put an estimate together.

What Our Customers Are Saying About Us

Javier        ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   11/05/2025

“David Romero is an exceptional professional with a clear understanding of his work. He successfully removed three stumps from my property. A task that required significant effort. I intend to utilize his services for future projects should the need arise. I highly recommend David: he is the ideal choice for such tasks.

Root Locating & Problem Root Removal

Roots don't stay where the tree is. They travel under lawns, toward water lines, beneath concrete and foundations and by the time you see one surfacing through the grass, there's a whole network working underground that you can't see. DemoRex provides root locating services throughout Fresno, Clovis, Sanger, and the Central Valley: finding out where problem roots actually run, exposing them, and removing the ones causing the damage.

Here's why it matters. Surface roots chew up lawns and mower blades, but the real cost happens out of sight: roots lift and crack sidewalks, driveways, and patio slabs, press against foundations, crush and invade sewer and irrigation lines, and heave fences and retaining walls out of line. What looks like one root breaking through the grass is usually a sign of where the whole system is headed and the earlier the path is known, the cheaper the fix. Locating first means you repair the concrete once, not every few years, and you address the root cause instead of the symptom.

Here's how locating works. We start where the root shows itself and trace it carefully exposing the root line with controlled excavation, following it back toward its source and forward toward whatever it's threatening. That tells us what you're actually dealing with: which tree it belongs to, how big the root system runs, what's in its path, and where cutting or removal makes sense. From there, problem roots get cut, sectioned, and removed, and the excavated line gets backfilled and leveled so the lawn or work area recovers.

An honest note about the tree itself: roots are how a tree stands up and feeds. Cutting minor and surface roots is routine, but severing major structural roots can destabilize a tree or affect its health and we'll tell you plainly when a cut falls in that territory. If the tree is one you're keeping and the roots in question are major, that's a conversation to have before the cut, sometimes with an arborist involved. And if the verdict is that the tree and its roots are more trouble than they're worth, DemoRex handles that path too. Stump grinding, dig-outs, and full removal of what's left.

Accessibility works like every DemoRex job: front yards, backyards, side yards, and tight spots against fences or concrete are all workable, with equipment sized to the space and hand-digging where precision calls for it. Before any excavation, anything you know about underground irrigation, sprinkler wiring, utilities, septic gets flagged at the estimate so the trace goes around it, not through it.

What the Lawn Is Trying to Tell You

Roots breaking the surface aren't random, they're the visible edge of a path the tree committed to years ago, and they surface where the soil is compacted, shallow, or already full. Left alone, they don't retreat: they thicken, spread, and keep following whatever drew them that direction, which is very often moisture, the irrigation line, the sewer lateral, the wet soil along a foundation. A root in the grass is an early warning delivered for free.

The good news is that this stage is visible, traceable, and possibly not yet under the slab stage. Locating the run and cutting the problem roots now costs a fraction of replacing a driveway, repairing a sewer line, or releveling a patio later. The lawn heals over the backfill in a season. Concrete doesn't heal at all.
