STUMP DIG OUT

STUMP DIG OUT REMOVAL PROFESSIONALS

Serving Fresno, Clovis, Sanger , and the Central Valley

100% Removal Of The Stump

Here's how it works. We bring in an excavator or skid steer and dig around the perimeter of the root ball, exposing the main anchor roots, the heavy laterals that hold the tree in place. Those get cut with the machine or a saw, and once the ball is free, we pull the whole thing out. Big stumps come out in sections; smaller ones come out whole. The stump and roots get loaded and hauled off, and what's left is an open hole where the root system used to be.

That hole is the whole point. If you're pouring concrete, setting a foundation, building a pool, running a driveway, or putting anything structural over that spot, roots left in the ground from a grind will rot out over time and the soil above them settles. A digout removes that risk. We backfill the hole with clean material and compact it in lifts so the ground is solid and ready to build on.

Know this going in: a digout disturbs a lot more ground than grinding does. The machine needs room to work, the hole is real, and the surrounding area will show it. That's the trade for getting every root out. We'll walk you through exactly what the site will look like before and after so there are no surprises.

Digouts also depend on what's around the stump. Irrigation lines, gas lines, fences, concrete flatwork, nearby foundations, all of it factors into how we dig and which machine we bring.

If nothing's being built over the spot, grinding is usually the smarter route. Not sure which your project calls for? Ask us. We'll tell you straight, even if the answer is the simpler job.

Dig-outs depend on what's underground and what's around the stump. To put together an estimate, we walk the site with you, check equipment access, and look at what's near the dig: lines, fences, concrete. You'll know the full plan before a machine ever shows up.

What Our Customers Are Saying About Us

Javier        ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   11/05/2025

“David Romero is an exceptional professional with a clear understanding of his work. He successfully removed three stumps from my property. A task that required significant effort. I intend to utilize his services for future projects should the need arise. I highly recommend David: he is the ideal choice for such tasks.

Stump Removal & Dig-Outs

Sometimes grinding isn't the answer, the stump needs to be gone, roots and all. Stump dig-outs are the full extraction: the stump, the root ball, and the major roots holding it are excavated, pulled out of the ground, and hauled off the property.   DemoRex performs stump dig-outs throughout Fresno, Clovis, Sanger, and the Central Valley, from single backyard stumps to rows of them on larger properties.

When is a dig-out the right call instead of grinding? When something is being built where the stump sits. Concrete, foundations, pools, new structures, and grade work all need the ground under them clear of buried wood, grindings and leftover roots break down over time and settle, and that's not what you pour concrete over. A dig-out is also the answer when you're replanting in the same spot, when a stump keeps sending up shoots from its roots, or when the project simply calls for the ground to be completely clean. If you're not sure which service your situation needs, that's exactly what the free estimate settles. We'll look at the stump and what's planned for the spot, and tell you straight which one makes sense.

Here's how a dig-out works. We excavate around the stump, cutting and freeing the major roots as we go, until the stump releases from the ground. Machine power does the pulling, this is skid steer and grapple work, not shovel work and stumps with root systems bigger than the stump itself come out the same way, because the machine doesn't care how long the tree had to dig in. The stump and root mass get loaded and hauled out with the rest of the debris, and any significant roots in the excavation area come out with it.

What's left is a hole, and the hole is part of the plan. We can backfill with clean dirt and level the area or, if the spot is getting excavated anyway for the concrete or construction that prompted the dig-out, we leave it staged the way your project needs it.    Since DemoRex also does dirt work and grading, the backfill, compaction, and finish grade can all happen as one job instead of three phone calls.

A few practical notes. A dig-out disturbs more ground than grinding, that's the tradeoff for getting every root, so expect the work area to be a work area until the backfill goes in. Access matters more here too, since the machine has to reach the stump: standard gates and reasonable paths are usually workable, and tight-access options are part of what the estimate figures out.     And anything underground near the stump, irrigation, sprinkler lines, utilities, septic needs to be flagged before we dig, so point out what you know at the walkthrough and we'll plan around it.

Roots and All Means Roots and All

The part of a stump you can see is the smaller half of the problem. Below grade, a mature tree anchors itself with a root ball that can outweigh and outspread the stump above it, which is exactly why the shovel-and-chain method fails all weekend and why this is machine work. Freeing a stump isn't about pulling harder; it's about cutting the ground's grip loose piece by piece until the stump has nothing left holding it, and then the lift is easy but still heavy.

That's also the honest difference between a dig-out and a grind: what leaves the property. A ground stump disappears from view; a dug-out stump disappears from the ground entirely, nothing buried, nothing breaking down under your next project. When the plans for that spot are bigger than covering it with grass, this is the version of gone you want.
